Tu Uyen Nguyen La, DAOM —— also known as Dr. La • Licensed Acupuncturist • Diplomate of Oriental Medicine • Member of MAPS

I’m Tu Uyen Nguyen La, a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, licensed acupuncturist, and nationally certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. I’m a MAPS member working toward my MAPS Fellowship — and I’m the mother of an autistic child.I was born and raised in Vietnam and grew up in Hawaii, where I attended school from elementary through college. My path into medicine took me to California, where I earned my Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from South Baylo University and my doctorate from the University of East West Medicine, specializing in pain management and integrative medicine. With over 10 years of experience in private practice and as a supervisor, I’ve cared for people of all ages, with experience in pain management, women’s health, mental health, digestive issues, and cosmetic acupuncture.Today my practice looks different, and it’s personal. As I walk this journey alongside my own autistic son, I’m devoting my practice to children and adults with autism and ADHD. My approach is shaped by training in neurological acupuncture and learning from leading specialists in the field — and I continue to study pediatric and neurological approaches. My approach is simple: listen first. I start with your family’s priorities and your child’s comfort, explain everything before it happens, and never force a treatment. I work alongside your child’s existing care team, and I’m always honest with you about what to expect. My care goes beyond acupuncture alone — I combine it with herbal medicine, nutrition and diet guidance, vitamins, and family coaching to support your child as a whole person.
I welcome all families, and I hold a special place for Vietnamese-speaking families finding their way through unfamiliar systems. I can explain everything in Vietnamese or English, whichever you’re most comfortable with.
